Zimbabwe will pay government workers in US dollars, the new finance minister announced today.

Tendai Biti, from Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s opposition party, said 130,000 soldiers, teachers, civil servants and other government workers will receive $100 (€79) a month tax-free, replacing their local currency salaries which are virtually worthless thanks to hyper-inflation.
