Man quizzed by police probing Australian wildfires arson
Police are questioning a man on suspicion of arson in Australia’s wildfires.
Victoria state police spokesman Chris Nash said a man was assisting investigators with their inquiries into the wildfires but declined to go into details.
The Age newspaper reported the suspect was expected to be charged with arson causing death.
The paper said the suspect was from the town of Churchill. Police said they are certain that a fire that started near Churchill and killed at least 21 people was deliberately lit.
More than 180 people were killed as wildfires swept across southeastern Victoria state last Saturday.
