A new species of bird found in a network of underground caves in China raised hopes the country could become a hotspot for other new discoveries, scientists said today.

Ornithologists Zhou Fang and Jiang Aiwu first spotted the fist-sized babbler bird in 2005 and have since confirmed its identity as an undescribed species.
