Thousands protest over Sri Lankan editor's murder

The funeral procession for a murdered Sri Lankan editor turned into a protest march today with thousands accusing the government of responsibility in his death.

Sunday Leader editor Lasantha Wickrematunge was shot dead last week as he drove to work.

The killing was condemned by international rights groups and foreign governments.

Opposition leaders accused the government of having a hand in the attack. The government has denied the accusations.

Many of those in the funeral procession today demanded those responsible be brought to justice.

Some set fire to tyres and burned an effigy of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
