Putin demands written deal over gas crisis

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin today insisted that a written deal on sending EU monitors to Ukraine must be signed before Russia resumes gas supplies to a freezing Europe.

Mr Putin told Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek that the deal must spell out details of the monitoring team’s operation.
