Thirteen killed in Iraqi prison break-out

Six officers and seven prisoners were killed in a riot and jail break-out in Iraq today.

Major General Tariq Yousif, the police chief of Anbar province, said four prisoners escaped in the bloody chaos that broke out early today at the prison in the city of Ramadi.

According to Yousif, a prisoner held in a cell with 11 others asked a guard to allow him to go to the bathroom.

When the guard opened the cell door, the prisoners pulled him in, grabbed his rifle and killed him, then attacked other guards.

The police chief said the prisoners involved were all suspected insurgents of al-Qaida in Iraq.
