A bus packed with passengers plunged into an irrigation canal along a narrow road in southern Egypt, killing 57 people.

Minya governor Ahmed Diaa said the bus, with at least 70 passengers on board, swerved to avoid an oncoming pick-up truck near a village close to the city, about 133 miles south of Cairo.
