Czech court rules in favour of Lisbon Treaty

The Czech Republic's highest court has ruled that the Lisbon Treaty is not in conflict with the country's constitution.

The ruling paves the way for the treaty to go forward for ratification by the Czech Parliament.

The Czech Government supports the treaty, but President Vaclav Klaus personally argued against it during the legal challenge.

Mr Klaus has previously said he would only sign the treaty if it was backed by Irish voters.

However, he repeated yesterday that he would not block the passage of the document if his personal opposition was the only obstacle.
