Obama tally at 77, McCain at 34, say projections

Barack Obama will win the states of Massachusetts, Illinois, Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and the District of Columbia - all as expected - projections in the US are showing.

He will also win three of Maine’s four electoral votes as it is one of two states which can split its allocated votes between the two candidates.
