McCain drops personal attacks on Obama

Republican presidential hopeful John McCain reined in personal attacks on rival Barack Obama over the weekend but vowed to crush him when they clash in their final debate on Wednesday.

With three weeks remaining until election day, Mr McCain is trailing in the polls and struggling under the heavy burden of his association with President George Bush – and the blame that attaches to the incumbent Republicans for the crumbling financial markets.
