Austrian election sees right-wing resurgence

Initial projections after the close of Austrian polls indicate the Social Democrats will take first place in parliamentary elections, while the country’s two far-right parties appear set for a resurgence.

The SORA Institute for Social Analysis and Research says its projections have a margin of error of plus or minus 1.5%.

The projections indicate the Social Democrats are leading with 28.6% of the vote, followed by the People’s Party with 25.1%.

The institute says Austria’s two far-right parties together are projected to take at least 29% of the vote.

The Freedom Party appears to have 17.9% of the vote while the Alliance for the Future of Austria is likely to have 11.9%.
