The UN chief said today he is considering setting up peacekeeping missions in Georgia's separatist areas of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, where Russia seized control with thousands of troops.

The possibility, said Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, comes after "almost daily contact with world leaders" on the Russian occupation of its neighbour's territory weeks after last month's five-day war.
