Channel Tunnel blaze sparks evacuation

More than 30 people were safely evacuated after a fire broke out in the Channel Tunnel today.

Eurotunnel, the company that operates the tunnel, said firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.

The fire broke out seven miles from the French side, a Eurotunnel spokesman said.

The official said 32 people were aboard a freight train transporting lorries where the fire broke out, and all were evacuated safely.

Rail traffic in the tunnel has been suspended and firefighters are examining the site.
