Russia’s prime minister Vladimir Putin today defended Russia’s war in Georgia and insisted that Russia has no intention of annexing the territory of former Soviet republics.

Russia’s prime minister Vladimir Putin today defended Russia’s war in Georgia and insisted that Russia has no intention of annexing the territory of former Soviet republics.

Mr Putin said Russia had to take strong military action after Georgia attacked the breakaway province of South Ossetia on August 7.
