Spanair flight makes unscheduled landing

Spain's aviation authority says Spanair, the airline involved in a crash that killed 154 people this week, has had another technical problem with one of its aeroplanes.

Air agency AENA says a Spanair flight from Barcelona to the Canary Island of Lanzarote has made an unscheduled landing at Malaga airport because of an unspecified technical problem.

The plane left Barcelona about 8am today, then diverted to Malaga within an hour. By mid-afternoon, the Spanair plane had still not resumed its flight.

Spanair has told the El Periodico newspaper the stop in Malaga, on Spain's southern coast, was not an emergency landing.

On Wednesday, a Spanair MD-82 bound for the Canary Islands crashed upon takeoff in Madrid. The accident killed 154 people.

All 18 survivors are still in hospital.
