The head of Georgia's national security council today said an exchange of prisoners of war with Russia has begun.

Two Russian military helicopters have landed in Igoeti and unloaded two people on stretchers who were taken to Georgian officials.

Two Georgian ambulances later unloaded two people and took them to the Russian choppers. One of them was on a gurney.

Georgian Security Council head Alexander Lomaia said that it was an exchange of prisoners from this month's fighting.

Journalists were kept at a distance from the hand over and officials on the scene did not comment. Igoeti is a forward position of the Russian military.
