Forty villagers travelling on a truck have been swept away by flood waters and are feared dead in southern India, according to local police reports.

Police official Mahesh Chadra Laddha said the truck was washed away while it was crossing a flooded bridge over a river in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh state.

The road was under nearly six feet of water today.
