Nine injured in Spain bull run

Nine people were injured on the first day of the running of the bulls in Pamplona, the Spanish Red Cross said today.

Spokesman Jose Aldaba said the injuries were mainly bumps and bruises from people falling during today’s run.

The mad dash through the cobbled streets of Pamplona was slow, messy and more dangerous than usual because the pack of six fighting bulls became separated about halfway through the route.

At least one of the half-ton animals ended up running on its own and became disoriented. Several times it turned around and tried to go back toward the starting point, but eventually made it to the Pamplona bullring where the course ends.
