A commuter train today collided with a freight train in south-east Belgium, leaving 30 passengers injured, officials said.

A commuter train today collided with a freight train in south-east Belgium, leaving 30 passengers injured, officials said.

The accident occurred this morning near the city of Liege.

Officials say six of the 30 injured were taken to hospital.

Frederic Petit of railway maintenance company Infrabel told VRT radio most of the injuries were light.

He said the commuter train had 50 people on board and it was on its way to Liege from the nearby city of Namur.

Investigators are trying to ascertain the cause of the crash.
