US: Alligator found in drain pipe

Animal control officers in the US get their fair share of unusual calls, but this one was among the weirdest: An alligator was stuck in a drain pipe.

Putnam County Officer Chris Brown said when children in Cookeville, Tennessee, first heard a growling noise coming from the drain, they thought it was a dog. But when officials arrived on the scene, they discovered an alligator at least 2 feet long.

Mr Brown believes someone had the gator for a pet, then turned it loose.

He said the alligator was handed over to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, which had to put it down.
