Torch route unveiled for Tibet relay stage

The capital of Tibet is set to host the Olympic torch relay, three months after violent anti-government rioting rocked the city.

The relay will stop in Lhasa tomorrow. It had been disrupted by protests against Beijing’s policies in Tibet during several international legs.

The state-run China Daily newspaper reported today that the 6.8-mile run will begin at Norbulingka, known as the Dalai Lama’s Summer Palace, and end at the hilltop Potala Palace, the traditional seat of Tibetan rulers.

The article made no mention of security measures in place for the relay, though stringent controls are expected in light of the rioting that broke out March 14 in Lhasa and subsequent anti-government protests elsewhere in western China.
