'World will need 50% more food', says UN chief

The world needs to produce 50% more food by 2030 to meet increasing demand, UN chief Ban Ki-moon warned today.

At a summit hoping to tackle hunger and civil unrest caused by recent massive food price rises the secretary-general said countries must minimise export restrictions and import tariffs during the crisis and quickly resolve world trade talks.
