Sri Lanka’s ruling party today won disputed regional elections in the country’s Eastern Province.

Results announced early today showed the United People’s Freedom Alliance coalition winning 20 seats on the 37-member provincial council, while the United National Party captured 15 seats. Two smaller parties won one seat each.
