Koala numbers are under threat from carbon pollution in the atmosphere because the greenhouse gas saps nutrients from eucalyptus leaves which are the animals’ only source of food, an Australian researcher said today.

Ian Hume, emeritus professor of biology at Sydney University, presented his research on the effects of carbon on eucalyptus leaves to the Australian Academy of Science.
