Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki has named rival Raila Odinga as prime minister, implementing a power-sharing deal.

Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki has named rival Raila Odinga as prime minister, implementing a power-sharing deal.

President Mwai Kibaki, speaking today in a speech broadcast live on television, also named Musalia Mudavadi, the second in command in Mr Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement, as deputy prime minister.

Also named a deputy prime minister in the new coalition Cabinet is Uhuru Kenyatta, an ally of President Kibaki and a son of Kenya’s independence hero and first president Jomo Kenyatta.
