Iraq troop withdrawal on hold, says Bush

The US will not withdraw any more troops from Iraq after July while a period of assessment and consolidation takes place, President George W Bush said today.

Mr Bush accepted the advice of General David Petraeus, the top US commander in Iraq, who told Congress this week that the current withdrawal of troops should be put on hold after July.
