An official in Nepal says a communist party candidate has been shot and killed days before elections for a special assembly to rewrite Nepal’s constitution.

Government administrator Anil Pandey says Rishi Prasad Sharma was shot earlier today in Jahare Bazar town.

Mr Sharma was contesting the constituency assembly election scheduled for this Thursday for the Communist Party of Nepal United Marxist-Leninist, one of the top three parties.
