School bus crash kills girl, 16

A bus taking high school pupils and their chaperones home from a band trip to Chicago overturned on a highway and skidded into a ditch, killing a 16-year-old girl and injuring dozens of others on board.

The bus, one of two carrying pupils from Pelican Rapids High School in western Minnesota, was on Interstate 94, about 30 miles north west of Minneapolis, when the accident happened shortly before 6am near Albertville.

There were 48 people aboard, including the driver.

Police identified the victim as Jessica Weishair, of Barnesville, Minnesota.
