Trickle of results fuel Mugabe election fraud fear
Fears are growing that Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe is planning a massive election fraud in the face of overwhelming defeat by his opponents.
Zimbabwe’s opposition claimed victory in the weekend elections, but it took the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission 15 hours yesterday to release results of just 66 parliamentary seats – giving the Movement for Democratic Change led by Morgan Tsvangirai 36 to 30 for Mugabe’s ruling party, with five seats going to a breakaway faction of Tsvangirai’s party.
