Greek tourist boat runs aground

A tourist boat with 280 people on board ran aground off the coast an island near Athens today.

A rescue helicopter and three Coast Guard boats are heading to the area off Poros in the Saronic Gulf.

The Merchant Marine Ministry, which co-ordinates rescue operations at sea, says the weather conditions are good and there is no immediate danger.

The boat is one of several that carries day trips between Piraeus and the nearby islands of Aegina, Poros and Hydra.
