Olympic chiefs 'confident' after terror plot revealed

China’s Olympic organisers said today that they are confident the upcoming Beijing Games will be safe from terrorists.

The statement came a day after an official said alleged terrorists captured in January were planning to attack targets associated with the Games in August.

Few details have been released about the plot and an apparently unrelated attempt to crash a passenger jet also revealed yesterday.

Olympic organisation spokesman Sun Weide said an efficient security command was in place and that Chinese officials were “confident” the Games would take place peacefully.
