Malaysia's Premier will stay on after election losses

Malaysia’s prime minister declared today he does not intend to quit despite unprecedented electoral losses that gave the opposition control of five states and one-third of the Parliament.

The national news agency, Bernama, cited Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as saying “he is not resigning from any post as he is under no such pressure to do so”.

Mr Abdullah faced an uncertain future after shepherding the National Front to its worst performance ever in general elections on Saturday, when scores of senior coalition officials lost their seats in the federal and state legislatures.
