Injuries reported in shopping centre blast

A large explosion was reported at a shopping plaza in the US today and a town official said there were injuries.

Mayor Richard Hyde said he had been told by the emergency services that there were “a multitude of injuries” after the blast in Waukegan, Illinois.

Television images of the Chicago-area shopping centre show a collapsed ceiling above a tuxedo shop, mobile phone store and a hair salon.

It was not clear what caused the blast.

Emergency services were on the scene.
