The New York Philharmonic today brought musical diplomacy to the heart of communist North Korea in an historic concert before the nation’s elite.

The Philharmonic is highlighting American music in the nuclear-armed country that considers the US its mortal enemy.

The concert began with the “Patriotic Song” – North Korea’s national anthem.

It is the first time a major American cultural group has performed in the country and the orchestra is the largest-ever delegation from the US to visit its long-time foe.

Many believe the event represents a warming in relations of the nations that remain locked in negotiations over Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons programs.
