Sumatra shaken by strong earthquake
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 rattled Indonesia’s Sumatra island today, the US Geological Survey said.
The quake struck at 9:46pm local time (2.46pm Irish time) just off the coast of Bengkulu, the USGS said. It had a depth of around 21.7 miles.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, said Gian Ginanjar, an official at the Indonesian Meteorological and Geophysics Agency.
