Sony looks to take new format DVD prize

Electronics giant Sony is emerging as the likely winner in a format battle for the next generation of DVD players.

Chief rival Toshiba today appeared ready to ditch its HD DVD business leaving Sony’s Blu-ray players to dominate the market.
