12 patients killed in bus crash in South Africa

Twelve South African patients were killed when the bus they were being transported in was involved in an accident, police said today.

The bus was transporting 27 patients to Kimberley in the Northern Cape for medical treatment, Superintendent Mashay Gamieldien said.

She said the driver lost control of the bus, which rolled several times.

Ten patients, including two children, died at the scene.

One died while being transported to hospital and another died in hospital.

The other 15 patients and the driver were seriously injured and were receiving treatment in Kimberley.
