Indonesian woman dies of bird flu

An Indonesian woman has died of bird flu, bringing the country’s death toll from the disease to 103, the Health Ministry said today.

The 29-year-old housewife from Tangerang town in the western outskirts of Jakarta, died on Saturday at a hospital in the city, the ministry said.

The woman was admitted to hospital on January 28, six days after she developed flu symptoms of cough, fever and respiratory problems.

She was reported to have visited her parents whose neighbours kept chickens, but it was still not clear whether the chickens were infected, the ministry said.
