Tadic claims win in Serbian vote

The European Union was quick to congratulate pro-Western Boris Tadic after he won Serbia’s presidential election, beating an ultranationalist ally of former President Slobodan Milosevic by a narrow margin.

The state electoral commission and independent vote monitors said that Mr Tadic won about 51%, while extreme nationalist Tomislav Nikolic had 47%. The remaining ballots were invalid.
