Eight people were killed and 12 injured today when a four-storey building collapsed in India.

The building, in the city of Ahmadabad, contained a budget hotel on three floors and a bank on the ground floor.

The collapse was apparently triggered by the digging of foundations in the adjacent plot of land.

People had been asked to leave the building three days ago after authorities noticed a tilt in the structure.
