A powerful bomb went off among police guards deployed in front of a court in Lahore, Pakistan, ahead of a planned protest by lawyers today, killing at least five people and wounding 20, officials and witnesses said.

Police could not immediately confirm the nature of the attack.

Police official Mohammed Afzal said it was a “powerful bomb blast” and at least five people had died and 20 were wounded. Many injured police were being transported to hospital.
