Sudanese army shot at peacekeeper convoy, say UN

The Sudanese army shot at a "clearly marked" UN convoy in war-torn Darfur, critically wounding a driver, the United Nations said.

The UN condemned Monday night's attack, the first against the peacekeepers since their mission began this month.

A spokesman said the UN had protested to the Sudanese government that "a clearly marked supplies convoy was attacked by elements of the Sudanese Armed Forces while on its way from Um Baru to Tine in West Darfur".

A Sudanese contracting driver was hit by seven bullets, a fuel tanker destroyed and an armoured personnel carrier damaged in the attack, the UN said in its statement.
