Back-from-the-dead canoeist John Darwin was today remanded in custody until December 14 accused of two deception offences.

Darwin, 57, appeared at Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court in the UK accused of making an untrue statement to procure a passport and obtaining a £25,000 (€35,000) money transfer by deception in relation to a life insurance policy.

He was remanded in custody until December 14 when he will reappear at the same court via video link.

His “widow” Anne, 55, remains in custody at Hartlepool police station after being arrested yesterday morning at Manchester airport having caught an overnight flight from the United States.
