One man was killed and nine others injured in a fire at a steel plant in Italy, officials and news reports said today.

One man was killed and nine others injured in a fire at a steel plant in Italy, officials and news reports said today.

The men were on night duty inside the factory of German company ThyssenKrupp on the outskirts of Turin when the blaze broke out at around 1am (midnight Irish time), local police said.

It took firefighters about three hours to put out the flames, police said.

All of those injured were taken to hospital, where at least three were in a serious condition, the Ansa news agency said.
