Middle East leaders gather for peace conference

US President George Bush will try today to help broker an elusive agreement between Israel and the Palestinians ahead of peace talks planned for this week.

Mr Bush invited the Israeli and Palestinian leaders to separate meetings at the White House today to prepare for the centrepiece of his Middle East gathering - an all-day session in Annapolis, Maryland tomorrow.
