Prime minister John Howard faced the humiliating prospect of losing his seat in Parliament, as well as his grip on power, in Australia’s elections today.

Prime minister John Howard faced the humiliating prospect of losing his seat in Parliament, as well as his grip on power, in Australia’s elections today.

With 42% of the votes counted, Howard was trailing his opposition Labour Party candidate Maxine McKew, in his Sydney electorate of Bennelong, by a narrow margin.
