Putin attacks West in election ploy

President Vladimir Putin accused the West today of meddling in Russian politics, claiming that opponents at home and abroad want to weaken the country.

“Those who confront us need a weak and ill state,” he told a parliamentary rally as he urged Russians to support the dominant Kremlin-backed party.
