Musharraf promises elections before January

Pakistan’s military ruler General Pervez Musharraf promised that elections would be held on schedule before January 9th, in a press conference today.

The pledge came as it emerged Musharraf has amended a law to give army courts sweeping powers to try civilians on charges ranging from treason to inciting public unrest.
