The top negotiator of Iran’s controversial nuclear programme has resigned, the country’s government spokesman said today.

It was not clear if Ali Larijani’s expected meeting with the European Union foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, scheduled for next week, would still take place.

“Larijani had resigned repeatedly. Finally, the president accepted his resignation,” government spokesman, Gholam Hossein Elham, told a press conference today.
