Racist gunman gets life sentence

A racist gun fanatic who murdered a black woman and the white toddler she was babysitting in a random attack was jailed for life in Belgium today.

Hans Van Themsche,19, wounded a third person as he rampaged through the heart of Antwerp armed with a pump-action shotgun.

“He deserves to pay for the crimes he committed, and I hope this will set an example for all those who are racist,” said Demba Modibo, uncle of babysitter victim Oulematou Niangadou.

Van Themsche – who blamed black people and other minorities for teasing him during his elementary school years – admitted the killings but said he could not be held responsible because he was mentally unbalanced.

Prosecutors said he was a violent junkie obsessed with revenge who wanted to kill as many people as possible during an apparent suicidal rampage along the cobblestoned streets of Antwerp’s historic centre.

Police eventually shot and wounded him after he killed Ms Niangadou ,24, and two-year-old Luna Drowart.
